Camille A. Gallagher

Camille Gallagher(Augello), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2026 surrounded by her family. Born on August 14, 1958 in Brooklyn to Phyllis and Anthony Augello, Camille grew up in a home filled with music, creativity, good food and love. She carried her parents' strength, resilience and warmth with her throughout her life. Camille is survived by a loving family and many friends, who will remember her warmth, intelligence, courage, laughter and the love she gave so freely. She is survived by her husband James Gallagher; her daughter Kristen Castanza(Calabrese), and her spouse Tim; her three grandchildren, Jack, Finley Camille, and Cooper; and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Anthony. Camille was a devoted teacher and lifelong learner who cared deeply about helping children feel seen, welcomed and valued. Her patience and kindness touched generations of students, as well as the many friends and colleagues who knew her. She had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 19 years, Deacon James Gallagher, with whom she shared a beautiful relationship full of love and companionship. Jim brought great happiness to Camille's life and their time together was so important and meaningful to them both. She was an adoring mother to her daughter Kristen Castanza(Calabrese), whom she raised with strength and joy. Kristen was not only her daughter, but her lifelong teammate, greatest source of pride and one of the deepest loves of her life. Their bond was defined by unwavering support and a love that carried them through every season of life. Camille was a cherished mother-in-law to Tim Castanza, whom she loved as a son. Their relationship was marked by affection, care, humor and a true closeness that brought them both great joy. She was a beloved grandmother to Jack, Finley Camille, and Cooper, who were the brightest lights in her life. Camille lit up in their presence and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live through them. Camille's memory will remain a lasting source of comfort and strength to all who loved her, and she will be greatly missed. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday August 20, 2026 from 4-8pm at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals ,28 Eltingville Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 21, 2026 at Holy Child Church, 4747 Amboy Road, where Camille and Jim were active members of the parish community for the past decade. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.
