Catherine McCabe Broderick January 12, 1925 – July 19, 2026 Catherine McCabe Broderick passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Clove Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 101 years old. Born in New York City on January 12, 1925, Catherine was the daughter of Henry and Blanche McCabe and the twin sister of Maude. A gifted pianist, she studied at The Juilliard School and nurtured a lifelong love of music. She shared that love with her family, who often gathered around the piano to sing while Catherine accompanied them. Catherine shared more than 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Harold Broderick, whom she met when they were neighbors on East 83rd Street in Manhattan. Together, they raised three sons: Jeffrey, Harold, and Christopher. After her children were grown, Catherine returned to school and earned a master’s degree in education. She went on to enjoy a long and rewarding career as an English teacher on Staten Island, teaching for many years at I.S. 51 and I.S. 72. Throughout her remarkable life, Catherine called many places home, including Manhattan, Staten Island, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and London, England. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Catherine was a loving and proud grandmother to Sean, Timothy, Patrick, Michaelle, and Wendy, and an adoring great-grandmother to Sean, Christian, Cameron, Kevin, and Kelly. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her ability to be the life of every party, as well as for her devotion to her family and her unmistakable sense of style. Above all, Catherine will be remembered for her extraordinary strength, determination, and unwavering belief in the power of positive thinking—qualities that carried her through a long, rich, and fruitful life. Catherine will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and her many friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Boulevard, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, New York. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
