Catherine Pasquale

Kay Pasquale was born on October 16th, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Rosalie Abbate, the oldest of three children. In those early years her family stressed education and the importance to be self efficient. Her father John, was an educated interior decorator for Macy�s and her mother was a designer of wedding dresses in the garment district of New York. Her brother Mario was a nuclear physicist for NASA and instrumental in space exploration, Kay was so proud of him, her brother Sal was in the printing business and published the reports for the New York Stock Exchange. Kay was a pioneer for women in the work place, beginning work at the Depository Trust Company at the New York Stock Exchange as a clerk. As part of a program for women in business, Kay took business courses and studied hard while working full-time. Kay paved the way for women in a mans world, ironically she was promoted to Supervisor and became one of the First Women Supervisors at the Human Resource Department. Kay worked for Depository Trust for 35 years in a man�s world and thrived. Kay was a dedicated and hard worker. Not content to have one job, Kay moonlighted for 25 years at Abraham & Strauss and then later Macy�s where she was respected for her fashion sense, positive attitude and customer service. Kay and her husband Victor were a working power couple until Victor retired and began to spend time with his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Lloyd Stuart in South Florida. After Victor�s death and upon her retirement Kay moved to Lauderhill full time. Lounging and playing cards was not how Kay spent her retirement. Rather she insisted on being an active part of Barbara and Lloyd�s business Union Printing. Kay loved interacting with all of the customers and candidates. In the summers in New York she spent time with her daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Bobby, visiting her son Anthony and daughter-in-law Linda, enjoying her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and going to work with Phylllis. Her grandson Charles, had her volunteering for the House of Hope and Stepping Stones (A residential substance abuse and mental health residential treatment center.) She would mentor the clients there and stress the importance of education, and helping them get their GED diplomas. The clients enjoyed her encouragement and advice. Believing education was the key to success, Kay volunteered alongside Barbara for the Hollywood Florida Scholarship Foundation where they would interview students to receive local scholarships. In helping other young people have the opportunity to taste the success she had earned. she found great reward. One of her favorite goals was advocating for LGBTQ rights, as her two cousins were gay and successful in the early 50�s when it was a challenge to do. She brought that activism to Broward County as a member of the Dolphin Democratic Club (the first gay and lesbian club which has grown in membership and accomplishing her same goals.) Having lived through the Great Depression, World War II, Kay recognized the importance of civic involvement. She volunteered on many campaigns for candidates she believed in. Most recently, Kay talked to her great- granddaughter Emily�s class about the Statue of Liberty and how her parents, Rosalia and John Abbate immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. These 10 year olds asked her question and she had the answer for everyone of them, like how many Presidents did she live thru and who was President when she was born, the teacher was amazed how Kay remembered it was President Harding. Kay loved to visit Houston, Texas the best, she was spoiled there by her grandaughter Kim who was inspired and encouraged by her grandmother to become one of the top 100 lawyers in the Nation. Kay loved being with her greatgrandson, Dylan who would play bass and guitar for her with his sister Ashlyn on the piano. She was proud of her grandchildren and great grands who are following in her footsteps, (Fire Fighters, NYPD, Entrepreneurs,Teachers). Staying this active and serving her community was the reason Kay reached her 101 birthday. She was the recipient of a Proclamation from Broward County on her 101 birthday and made October 16th Kay Pasquale Day for the reasons I mentioned above. She will be missed and be remembered for her accomplishments and how many lives she touched. Catherine was pre deceased by her husband Victor who passed in 1991 and by her son Anthony. She is survived by her daughters Phyllis Tallise and her husband Robert, Barabara Stuart and her late husband Lloyd and by her daughter in law Linda. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
