Charles Gary Cutler

Charles Gary Cutler, 69, of Tottenville, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Home. Born Monday, February 16, 1953 in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of Barbara (Iverson) Cutler and the late Charles A. Cutler. Gary as he was always known, was born and raised in the Charleston Section of Staten Island. A graduate of Tottenville High School, Gary kept his roots here and settled in Tottenville after marrying the love of his life Carol. Gary worked jobs as a Mechanic and Bartender before beginning his long career with the NYC Parks Department, a job that he took great pride in. A hard worker Gary was also well respected by his peers, and will be remembered fondly for his outgoing nature and amazing sense of humor, Gary had the innate ability to make all those around him laugh with a joke or comment. He was active in his union serving as President for DC 37, Gary retired from his supervisors position with the NYC Parks and Recreation Department in 2015. In his downtime Gary had many hobbies, He was an avid reader devouring anything written by Stephen King, he loved the Hobbit and the Lord of the Ring series by J.R.R. Tolkien. He was a devoted sports fan, watching baseball, football and even golf. He was a true fan of both the Yankees and the Mets as well as the NY Giants. He cherished the simple times, doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, dining out, fishing and skiing trips with friends and family. Gary kept active playing in both softball leagues and bowling leagues here on the island. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and especially trips to Woodloch Pines Resort with family and friends. Gary was the beloved husband of the late Carol (Schmitt) Cutler who sadly passed away in 2019. Devoted son of Barbara (Iverson) Cutler and the late Charles A. Cutler. Loving father of Michelle Schmitt-DeBonis. Dear father in law of Joe DeBonis. Adored brother of John Cutler, Glen Cutler and Robin Calkins. Arrangements include Private Cremation. Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Interment will take place on Monday December 5, 2022 at 12:00 pm at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island.
