Ciro A. Galeno

Ciro A. Galeno passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Staten Island University Hospital at the age of 72. Born in Brooklyn to James and Marianna, Ciro graduated from Lafayette High School in 1968. He served in the US Army Reserve and was retired from the New York City Department of Sanitation. He spent many years working with his brother Louis at Galeno Pharmacy in Bay Ridge. For the past twenty years he proudly drove a school bus for Safe Coach. He was also a skilled carpenter. Ciro married Denise Kania in 1971 and together they had three children, Denys, Ciro, and Nicholas. He indulged in being a grandfather to Jack and James, Denys’ sons with her husband Bobby. Ciro had a lifelong passion for driving his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He had a collection of original Coney Island Freddie tattoos, and got his first one at age 13. Over the years he also enjoyed his Porsche, Cadillacs, Jeeps, VW Beetles, pick-up trucks, jet skis, and most recently in semi-retirement in Florida, a golf cart, which he drove around with his beloved pug Petunia. Ciro was a part-time resident of Isles of Capri in Naples, Florida, where he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and sister Theresa Castellano and her family. His ashes will be scattered there in the sea. Ciro was predeceased by his parents and brother Vincent. In addition to the aforementioned family members, he is survived by a large extended family of sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cousins, as well as friends, all of whom had a special relationship with this larger-than-life character who broke every rule that he could, but always did the right thing. A funeral service will be held on Friday at Our Lady Star of the Sea at 5371 Amboy Road, Staten Island, New York 10312.
