Daniel M. Grossane

Daniel M. Grossane Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud American, was called home peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 89. He was a pillar of strength and love for his family and community. Born to Barbara Grossane (Schneider) and Daniel Grossane Sr. in Brooklyn, NY, Daniel was raised in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn Technical HS in 1954. Daniel's life was defined by a love for his country and a steadfast commitment to serving his community. He wore the uniform for several years in the U.S. Army Reserve during the 1950s and 1960s. He dedicated nearly four decades of his life to the people of New York City, joining the NYPD in 1957. His exemplary service saw him rise through the ranks, as he was promoted to Sergeant in 1970 and later promoted to Lieutenant in 1984. He retired in 1996 after almost 39 years of honorable, distinguished, and dedicated service. Yet, above all his passions, Daniel was a deeply devoted family man. His life was anchored by his cherished wife, Charlotte, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring 65-year love story and marriage. They travelled together and later shared memorable trips exploring the western United States with their grandchildren, creating a legacy of adventure. After his retirement, his greatest and most profound joy was simply spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embracing his role as "Grandpa" with boundless warmth, love, and wisdom. Daniel found enjoyment in his hobbies. He was a model train enthusiast as well as a member of the Staten Island Sportsmen's Club and Colonial Rifle and Pistol Club. Sharing his passion for marksmanship, he once competed in the Empire State Summer Games and later in life mentored teens of Scouting of America Venturing Crew 2701 in trap shooting, passing on his skills and values to the next generation. Daniel's enduring legacy of love and devotion lives on through his cherished wife, Charlotte Grossane (nee Turczany). He was the loving father of three children: Daniel M. Grossane III (Claudia), Gina Catanzaro (Anthony), and Elizabeth Nelson (Allan); a proud and doting grandfather of Steven Nelson, Katie Buck (Ryan), Kelly Ozier (Dylan), George Catanzaro (Carrie), Andrew Grossane, Matthew Grossane, and Anna Catanzaro; and the treasured great-grandfather of Charlotte, Venus, Abigail, Henry, and Vincent. He is predeceased by his sister, Frances Goeller. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Friday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York.
