Donato J. Cannella

Donato J. Cannella, 74 of Great Kills, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born Sunday, February 9, 1947 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Orlando and Anna Cannella. Donato proudly served his Country in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He made a career with the United States Coast Guard, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class and served for 22 years. In his earlier years, he loved going to Woodstock and concerts with his wife, Marjorie. He enjoyed music, especially rock and roll. Donato was proud of his job, working as an electrician for 35 years with ABC network/Walt Disney and he was a member of Local 3. In his leisure time you could find him cooking for family and friends and he loved hosting barbeques for his family and friends. Donato was also an avid Yankee, Jets and Rangers fan. Above all, and what was most important to him was family, especially his grandchildren, who he spoiled every chance he got. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Marjorie. Loving father to Don V. and Christopher. Devoted grandfather to Donato, Angelina and Daniel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at St. Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will follow in Forest Green Memorial Park, Morganville, NJ. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 50 person in room policy is in effect, as well as a maximum of 100 people permitted in Church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
