Emily Marchese

Emily Marchese (87) of Great Kills, a former Brooklyn resident, mother of two and grandmother of six, died Tuesday surrounded by her family and friends in the comfort of her daughter's home. Emily fell in love and married her childhood sweetheart, Anthony "Tony" Marchese, on December 11th, 1955. Anthony pre-deceased Emily in 2016. Emily and Tony had a beautiful marriage for 61 years, everyone who knew them would describe them as a match made in heaven. Mrs. Marchese worked in the bank and insurance industry for 20 years. Emily's last job was when she worked for Seaview Payroll Department for 10 years before retiring in 1998 to become a full-time grandmother and help care for her beautiful grandchildren who she loved immensely. She loved spending time with her family, who also valued their time with her. She was the center of entertainment and was constantly making them laugh and smile. She was an avid traveler; she and her husband Tony would vacation every chance they could. Emily and Tony were snowbirds for over 20 years in Florida. Emily enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City with her friends and family, her most recent trip was this past December when she traveled to the Smoky Mountains. Nonna, as her grandchildren called her, always believed that you should put family first and would always host every holiday and family gathering where she would cook the most delicious Italian meals which included antipasto spreads, lasagna, and her famous chocolate chips cookies, If you were fortunate enough to have a seat at Nonna's table, you were blessed with not only a delicious meal, but also her unwavering dedication. She selflessly served, cleaned, and hosted, always wearing a smile, and never complaining. Her love for her family and her passion for making people happy were truly unmatched. Emily is survived by her two children: her daughter, Karen Marsala; devoted son-in-law, Charles Marsala; her son, Dr. Charles Marchese, and her grandchildren: Charles (Amanda), Francesca, Isabella, Emily, Julianne, and Charles. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc located on 28 Eltingville Blvd in Staten Island, NY 10312.
