Grace Cafaro

Grace (GiGi) Jean Lawlor Cafaro, 82, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Staten Island University Hospital North with her loving family by her side. Born to George and Grace Montreale Lawlor, Grace grew up in Brooklyn, NY where she forged cherished memories with her sisters Ruth Lorusso and the late Carol Lawlor, and her late brother George. She developed a lifelong passion for cooking and was very proud of her Irish heritage. Grace was a master in the kitchen cooking meals for family and anyone who walked into the house. Her infamous whole wheat Irish soda bread and potato leek soup along with many other dishes, brought people together. Grace found joy in the simple pleasures of life, she loved flowers, animals, and also enjoyed watching Jeopardy every evening and answered so many questions correctly she could have been a contestent. She listened intently to her small transistor AM radio tuned into WABC daily. Grace was overwhelmed by the beauty of her ten grandchildren and her ''grand pups'', as she called the canines in the family. She also loved to travel to visit her sister Ruth in California which she did as often as she could. Graces' greatest source of pride and happiness, however, was her beloved family. She shared close to five decades of love and companionship with her devoted husband, the late Carmine Cafaro, and took every opportunity to spend time with her children, in-laws and grandchildren. She's predeceased by her husband Carmine, Carol Lawlor, her brother George Lawlor and son John Matthew Cafaro. She is survived by her six children Elise Maher (the late John), Teresa Kramer (Jay), Mary Galvin (Paul), Daniel Cafaro (Cindy Morrissey), Thomas Cafaro and Michael Cafaro. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren, Kathryn, Emily and Alexandra Maher, Kyle, Caroline and William Kramer, Shane and Savannah Galvin, and Brendan and Julia Cafaro grow and thrive, their presence bringing her immeasurable joy. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was a beautiful, kind, friendly and generous woman who will be missed by so many. As we bid farewell to Grace, we celebrate a life well lived and defined by unwavering love and loyalty. A wake will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. at John Vincent Scalia Funeral Home, 28 Eltingville Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10312. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 24th at 10 a.m. at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
