Helen Irene Hein

Helen Irene Hein, 81. passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on July 31, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Dominick and Marie Blasi. She spent her childhood, teenage, and young adult years there, where she formed many memories swimming at Farragut Pool and visiting Coney Island. One of Helen's early jobs was at West Side Savings Bank in Manhattan. It was there that she met her future husband, Paul. The two later married and moved to Staten Island, New York, settling in the town of New Dorp, where they built a loving home and family. Helen later worked in the claims department at Maersk before later joining Foley, Smit, O'Boyle & Weisman as a secretary, where she eventually retired. Helen had many interests and was deeply engaged in her community. She had a love for flowers and was a proud member of the Great Kills Garden Club. She was also an active member of the Great Kills Swim Club, where she formed many friendships. She enjoyed walking through the charming blocks of New Dorp. A true lover of country music, Helen especially enjoyed line dancing. Helen prided herself as being Elvis Presley's biggest fan, and his face could be seen on various memorabilia around her home. She learned to sew at an early age and loved making clothes throughout her life, often pouring care and creativity into every stitch. She was an avid QVC shopper, and delivery boxes at her doorstep were a familiar and frequent sight. Helen loved to travel, both domestically and abroad, and visited many places throughout the course of her life. She was the beloved wife to Paul G. Hein. Loving mother to Carolyn McGee and Donna Renna. Dear mother-in-law to Leonardo Renna. Devoted grandmother to Ariana Renna, Nicholas Renna and Paul Hein. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church located at 90 Third Street Staten Island, New York 10306. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. If so desired, contributions in Helen's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
