John P. McTigue

John P. McTigue, of Great Kills, passed away on February 19, 2024 at the age of 89 surrounded by his family at Staten Island University North Hospital. John was the beloved son to his late mother Bridie McTigue nee McGovern. He was born and raised in the Inwood section of Manhattan. He graduated from La Salle High School and received his B.S.in Civil Engineering from City College. In 1969, he and his young family settled in Great Kills. He began his nearly forty year career in New York City government as an engineer in the Office of the Manhattan Borough President. He spent most of his career at the Department of Transportation, her served in a number of senior roles including Chief Engineer of the Construction for the Department of Transportation and as an Assistant and Deputy Commissioner before retiring in 1995. John was the beloved husband to his late wife Rose McTigue (Kenny). Together they had their three sons Thaddeus, Cronin and Trevor. In his retirement, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling extensively visiting Asia, Europe, Australia and the Mid-East. He could be found rooting for the New York Giants and was very well read. He spent many summers relaxing at the Great Kills Swim Club and was an active parishioner of St. Clare Church. John is survived by his children Thaddeus McTigue (Liz), Cronin McTigue (Cathy) and Trevor McTigue. He was a devoted grandfather to Meaghan McTigue, Lauren McTigue (fianc�e Zachary Caldarola), John McTigue and Andrew McTigue. John was also a dear brother to Terrance McTigue, brother in law to Gene Ferrone (Susan), and sister in law Loretta Kenny. He was also a fond uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by, his sister Jane Ferrone, and brother and sister in laws Mary McTigue, Patrick Kenny, Theresa Bowen, Ted Kenny, Martin Bowen and Dorothy Kenny. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
