John J. Molloy, Jr.

John J. Molloy Jr. born and raised in Dyker Heights Brooklyn, currently residing in Staten Island, NY passed away suddenly on October 23rd, 2023. John was a proud member of the NYPD for 21 years retiring as a first grade detective from the counterterrorism unit. John started his career in the NYPD in July 1996 making the switch from being a day trader at the NY stock exchange. John was a natural true protector, the enigma of a public servant. When John got the phone call at work at Tullett & Tokyo that he was admitted to NYPD cadet academy, he promptly called his father who came that morning with boxes to pack up his desk. After graduating the Police Academy, John took to the streets of the 67 precinct where he worked for 10 years serving the Flatbush community. He was promoted to detective October 2005, Promoted detective second grade August 2012, promoted detective first grade March 2015. John retired in October 2016 from what he would say was the greatest job in the world where he met friends that became family. After taking exactly one week off from retirement, he started his second career in corporate security Con Edison where he currently worked for the past seven years. John was the oldest of four children born June 30th, 1970 to John J. Molloy Sr. and the late Catherine Molloy. He is a proud graduate of Xaverian High School '88 while working in High School at the Breezy Point Surf Club as everyone's favorite cabana boy. He continued his education at Marist College '92. His passion for having a good time and a smile on his face also landed him on the rugby team for 4 years of college. His friends he made along the way are a part of the long legacy that John was blessed to have. John leaves behind his loving wife Pamela of 21 years, his son John(19), Amanda (17), Brooke (15). He is survived by his father John J. Molloy married to Gail Molloy,, brother Michael (Toni), sisters Mary Donnelly (Matt) and Kelly O'Connor (Mike). He also leaves behind his beloved nephews Jack Molloy, Matthew Donnelly, Michael O'Connor and his nieces Olivia Molloy, Catherine Molloy, Liza Donnelly. He is also survived by his father-in-law Joseph Regina. John leaves behind a tremendous amount of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers. He was a mentor to several, a friend to many and absolutely loved by all. John was the epitome of the perfect gentleman. He always had a smile on his face and was ready to tell a not so short story. He loved to be surrounded by his family and friends and would start every conversion with ''Let me tell you a quick story''. There are no words to describe the void that John will leave in this world, he was simply a bright light that wanted to help, love and laugh with all. John lived his life with passion, dignity and an enormous amount of grace and faith. He will be missed tremendously by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 and from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023 , at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
