Joseph P. Pastore, 82 of Eltingville, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Joseph was the beloved husband of Martha.They would have been married for 61 years on July 25th. He is survived by his wife Martha, children Edward Pastore (June), Christine Martorano (Art), Phyllis Ferro (John) and Peter Pastore (Gina); sisters Marie Weinstein, Nancy Pastore-Ahrentzen, deceased brother Rocco and his 7 grandchildren, Gabrielle, Andre, Anthony Joseph, Anthony John, Serena, Jack and Gus. Joseph Pastore, who never met a plate of food he couldn't clean, a dance floor he couldn't light up, or a tune he didn't love, passed away after a life filled with love, laughter, and a little bit of sawdust. Joe's story began in Brooklyn, but it really took off one fateful day in the fall of 1960 when he locked eyes with his future wife on the train. Of course, he first thought her brother was her boyfriend, but thankfully, he soon realized his mistake and the rest was history. Joe spent 18 years as a margin clerk at Lobe, Rhoades & Co., where he balanced numbers by day and bowled by night as a proud member of the company bowling team. But Joe's real passion wasn't found in the office or at the lanes " it was on the dance floor, where he and his wife could often be found showing off their moves. And when he wasn't dancing, Joe had a deep love for listening to music. Whether it was classic tunes that took him back or something new that caught his ear, music was the soundtrack to his life, filling the home with warmth and memories. In 1971, Joe moved to Staten Island with his wife and two kids when he began a 25-year career at the MTA as a maintenance engineer, where he kept the trains "and the city" running smoothly. After retiring, he stayed just as busy at Holy Child Church, serving as a sacristan and usher during masses, always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. Joe was a man who loved to stay active, biking all over Staten Island and spending countless sunny days at the beach with his wife and family. He had a talent for working with his hands, building cabinets, beds, and just about anything else that caught his eye. His lawn was as meticulously cared for as his beloved cars, which gleamed with the same attention to detail. Friday nights were reserved for pizza-making with his wife and granddaughter Serena, a tradition that brought him as much joy as the perfect slice. And true to form, Joe never left a crumb behind. He was a man who appreciated a good meal and believed no plate should go uncleaned. Joe's life was one of devotion to his family, his work, his hobbies, and his community. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a home filled with memories (and a few handmade projects). While the world may be a little quieter without him, his spirit will live on in every song, every dance, every family meal, and every perfectly mowed lawn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. Arrangements include private cremation. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, and Thursday, April 3, 2025 at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York.
