Margaret Bailey

Margaret “Peggy” Bailey, 72, passed away on June 23, 2025, at North Shore University Hospital after a prolonged illness. Born Margaret Gale on April 21, 1953, Peggy was a lifelong Staten Islander. She attended Tottenville High School and earned an associate degree from St. Vincent’s Nursing School. Peggy began her career as a registered nurse at the former Staten Island Hospital and later found her true calling in the pediatric emergency room at Staten Island University Hospital North. Over her remarkable 45-year career, she was known not only for her clinical expertise but also for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering support of younger nurses beginning their careers. Peggy was deeply devoted to her family. She and her husband, Thomas, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary—a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they cherished time spent at their second home in Lake Placid, NY, and their many travels over the years. They made their home in Eltingville, where they raised their two sons. She was a loving mother to Thomas (Victoria), and a proud and doting NaNa to her grandsons, Sean and Christopher. To them, she was a source of endless love, comfort, and wisdom—a trusted confidante who could always be counted on to listen and keep a good secret. She always ended every conversation with, “I love you more.” Peggy was the eldest of her siblings and is survived by her brothers and sisters: Richard, John (Geralyn), Eileen Everista (Mark), and Janet Gale (Angelo). She was also a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved son, Sean, sister Christina and her parents, John and Margaret Gale (née Kielty). Peggy will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and lifelong dedication to caring for others—both professionally and personally. She was always the first one we called when we needed medical advice. Her presence, strength, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:45 AM on Friday at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
