Neil H. McElhearn

Neil H. McElhearn, 59 a lifelong Staten Islander passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. Born Saturday, May 27, 1961 in Staten Island, NY, he was the devoted son of the late John F. McElhearn Sr. who passed away in June and the late Virginia Groll McElhearn. Neil a graduate and Alumni of Farrell High school held the Schools record for the longest pass reception after catching a 95 yard pass to score, a record he still holds today. Following College at Stanford, Neil became a Tugboat Dispatcher for Reinhauer Transportation Co. here on Staten Island. Neil loved sports, he devotedly coached and refereed SI Pee Wee Football leagues many teams. When not coaching or reffing, he could be found following his favorite teams on Television, the NY Yankees, Jets, Cowboys, and Rangers. Neil loved most just being with his family from his walks with Maureen everyday to just holding his grandchildren, Neil cherished every moment of it. He was the beloved husband of 18 years to Maureen Sullivan. Devoted father of Neil H. McElhearn, Jr., Michael Sobiesiak, and daughter, Keryn DiMartino,. Adored father in law of Eva McElhearn, Shannon Sobiesiak, and John DiMartino. Dear brother of John F, McElhearn Jr. and his husband Carl andTracy McDowell and her husband Dennis. Cherished grandfather of Jordan McElhearn and Maclyn Sobiesiak A Mass of Christian Rite will be offered at 10:30 AM on Monday November 9, 2020 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church located at 6135 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10309. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 40-50 person in room policy is in effect, please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well.
