Richard William Watson

Richard W. Watson, 79 of Eltingville, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born July 15, 1943 in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Thomas Watson and the late Ann (Kelly) Watson. Richard, a US Army Veteran, returned stateside after his discharge and began his long career as a Social Worker in Child Protective Services while continuing to serve in the Army Reserves for several years. Marrying the love of his life, the former Renee Fass, they started their family and raised 3 amazing children together. Richard was an avid and voracious reader; he would read anything he could get his hands on. Richard and Renee were in many book clubs together, sharing their love of reading. When his head was not in a book, Richard enjoyed watching movies, baseball games, and anything to do with history. Richard was a devoted Star Trek fan and loved all of sci-fi. He loved photography, and was always the one behind the camera. Richard relished card games and Scrabble with family and friends, but more than anything he cherished traveling with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Richard and Renee would travel to places like Alaska, Rome, Paris, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, California, and Florida. As their children were growing up, Richard and Renee made sure to plan a family vacation every year. Richard was a bright, intelligent, compassionate man who dedicated his life to not only his family but to his work also. He touched the lives of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was the beloved husband of Renee (Fass) Watson. Loving father of Billy Watson, Jennifer Watson and Lillian Fetalaiga. Dear father in law of David Fetalaiga and Brandon Fleury. Adored brother of Ann Forshey and the late Alice Wommack, and Thomas Watson. Cherished grandfather of Josephine, Levi, and Jenny Fetalaiga. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
