Robert C. Wing

Robert C. Wing, 82 of Eltingville, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born Friday, March 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Felix and Mae Wing. He was the husband of Joan Mulligan Wing since 1957. Robert and Joan were the loving parents to 5 children. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Robert and Joan were married for 60 years. They have lived in Eltingville since 1962 and in the last years have come to enjoy spending the winter in their home in Briny Breezes, Florida. Here is where they made many friends and memories that will be cherished. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech High School and then went on to attend Brooklyn College and the Pratt Institute. Robert enlisted in 1957 with the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1960, and served in the Reserves for 7 years following his active duty. Robert began his career as a mechanical engineer at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. After working there for several years he went on to work for the Treadwell Corporation. His next job lead him to become project manager for the Hatch Corporation. As project manager, Robert traveled to many places including; Oklahoma, Nevada, Rhode Island, Delaware and Kentucky. For over 40 years, Robert served as an usher at the 9:15 a.m. Mass at Holy Child Church. Volunteering and service was a large part of Robert's life. He served as a Cub Scout leader for Pack #61 for 10 years. He was a volunteer at Eger Nursing Home, his services there included preparing for Sunday Mass, giving communion to the residents and visiting with many. For over 40 years, Robert served as an usher at the 9:15a.m. Mass at Holy Child Church. He was an avid baseball fan and loved to watch his favorite team, the Mets. Surviving are his wife Joan; sons, Robert Wing, Jr. and Scott Wing (Tricia), daughters, Christine Amberger (Robert), Julia Fitzpatrick (Brian) and Lisa Huntzinger(Jerry); sister Nancy Cantwell, fond brother in law of George Cantwell and Betty and Jim Humphries, and 7 grandsons Ryan, Bobby, Kevin, Bobby, Jerry, John and Sean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Arrangements Include Private Cremation. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2018, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
