Terence H. Raye

Terence Howard Raye was born on November 20, 1965, in Staten Island, NY to the late Howard Raye and Sybil Raye. Our beloved father, son, and brother heard our Heavenly Father’s voice and answered on July 21, 2024, at his home, peacefully. At a very early age, Terence accepted Christ at St. Philips Baptist Church in Staten Island, NY. Terence is a 1983 graduate of McKee Technical & Vocational High School. Following graduation, he attended the College of Staten Island. In 1988, he began his career with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as a bus operator at Flatbush Bus Depot in Brooklyn, NY. In 1989, he was transferred to Castleton Bus Depot in Staten Island. In 1997, he was promoted to Surface Line Dispatcher (SLD). Throughout his career as a Dispatcher, he worked at Flatbush Depot, Brooklyn Road, and Ulmer Park Bus Depot. On June 24, 2021, Terence finished his 33-year career as the Pick Dispatcher at Jackie Gleason Bus Depot in Brooklyn, NY. He was well known by his peers as being a true example of a man, brother, and friend, a mentor, a partner, a beautiful person, a very positive brother, a true gentleman, a realist, an inspiration, a garage head and house head, he was affectionally called T, T-Rex, Terry, Raye, and “Uncle Ray”. His infectious smile brightened every room he entered and if he called you a “friend”, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you. Terence loved his MTA colleagues and took pride in being the best that he could be for everyone who crossed his path. Terence lived his life to the fullest. He was a proud member of the Gamma Line, Iota Chapter of Sigma Phi Rho Fraternity, Incorporated. He had a life-long passion for fishing, completing the Five Boro Bike Tours, and listening to loud heart-thumping classic house music. Terence was a Marvel Comic fan, however, his #1 superhero was Spider-Man. Terence will be truly missed, and leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Kyra Raye of Edison, NJ; mother, Sybil Raye; sisters, Marcia Coleman (Meramon) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Virginia Raye of Alexandria, VA; his dear friend and companion, Suelan Lewis; two nephews, a niece, and a host of relatives, friends, and colleagues. Terence, this is not a goodbye, you will never be forgotten. Until we meet again. We love you. A Funeral service will be offered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at St Philips Baptist Church located at 77 Bennett Street Staten Island, New York 10302. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
