Thomas Metz

Thomas Metz, 89 of Staten Island, New York passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Eger Health Care & Rehab. Center in Staten Island. Born July 16, 1932 in Staten Island, he was the son of the late Herman Metz and Frances LoBianco Metz. Thomas worked for AT&T as an Installer and a Supervisor until his retirement in 1986. He was the true definition of a family man. His family remembers him always tinkering around the house, mowing the lawn and taking care of the gardening. He enjoyed playing cards and taking his children fishing in his younger years. Thomas was also very active in raising money for Greyhound Adoption Groups, and adopted many over the years. Thomas always looked forward to family vacations to Aruba. He and his wife Janet also enjoyed their time at their home in Pennsylvania, as well as their trips to the Borgata. He was US Airforce Veteran during the Korean War. Thomas is survived by his wife of over 50 years Janet. He was a loving father to Thomas G. Metz (Karen), Kathy Ann Wagner (Cliff), Ellen Lanzi (Mario), and Kristine M. Metz. He was also a cherished brother to Mary Bowe (the late Howard). Thomas was a devoted grandfather to Cara, Gena, Kimberly, Thomas C., and Carolyn. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 9, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A New York State decision that those who are vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks. However, our staff who have serviced over 350 covid funeral services safely will wear masks to protect those who have not been vaccinated or those who feel uncertain and our own families. We feel this is necessary because we have handled 8 covid deaths in the month of May and more as of this writing of June 21st.
