Veena Kumari

Smt. Veena Kumari Ji (jhaiji), was a loved mother, wife, aunt, grandma, and great grandma. She was born as Bachni Kumari, on February 2. 1943, to Shri Narayan Singh and Smt. Malati Devi. She had two sisters and four brothers, she was the second youngest of her family. Jhaiji was married to Dharam Vir Bawa (Papaji) at a very young age and her martial name became Veena Kumari. She later gave birth to 7 children, 4 daughters, and 3 sons. She lived her life as a housewife and raised her children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with great love and care. Jhaiji was a follower of the Radha-Swami community. She meditated twice a day and was a very spiritual person. Jhaji lived in God's grace. Jhaiji liked to listen to Satsang, sew, knit, go on walks, cook, and go to the temple with her family. Jhaiji was a very traditional woman and although she did not enjoy dressing up or wearing makeup she always loved seeing her children dress up. Often when the girls of our family did not wear bangles or earrings she would be the first to ask why nobody was wearing jewelry. She was a very loving person. As she got older she began to lose her hearing and got dementia. Living with dementia was difficult for her and caused her to hallucinate which ultimately was very confusing for her. She would often think that it was daytime when it was night and would start her morning routine. One day while doing this she fell, which resulted in a major injury. This injury worsened after she had a second fall on December 27th. On December 28th, 2020 she did not wake up in the morning. She was rushed to the hospital and needed emergency surgery. The surgery was successful, and she was recovering very well. Or so we thought, Due to COVID-19 policies family members could not stay with her in the hospital. Only a couple of days before her discharge she aspirated in the hospital due to not being suctioned and was left unattended by hospital staff. She was found hours after she had aspirated causing her to go into a semi-coma. For the next two years, she remained in a semi-coma before passing away Sunday, September 4. 2022. Jhaiji was an incredible woman with astrong willpower who passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side both virtually and in person. Jhaiji was a woman that worked hard in life, she spent every day taking care of others and in her last days, her family was given the opportunity to take care of her. May she rest in eternal peace in a heavenly adobe alongside her husband and other late family members.
