Vivian Grace Kaufmann

Vivian Kaufmann of New Brighton, Staten Island, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Born in the Chelsea section of New York City, the daughter of George and Alice Haines, her family relocated to the Midland Beach section of Staten Island when she was a teenager. Vivian graduated from New Dorp High School. She married Frederick William Van Manen and resided in that area having four children. Vivian had several careers through out her life working as a care provider at the Willowbrook State School in the 1970's. She also worked for the Salvation Army. Vivian later became a dedicated Certified Nurse Assistant working for over 25 years at Silver Lake Nursing Home. In her leisure, she enjoyed bowling, country music and church bingo. Vivian was predeceased by her 2nd husband William Kaufmann. She is survived by her brother George Haines of Long Island, NY, her son Frederick W. Van Manen, Jr., his wife Gerrianne of Staten Island, her daughter Debra Van Manen of Killeen, Texas, 8 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She lost her daughter Patricia Ann Calamito in 2012, and was predeceased by her infant son Michael. Vivian was inspiration in caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout their lives. She enjoyed spending time with all the children and would often babysit for them. Her daughter Debra said ''My mom was a fun and easy going person who had a bubbly quick witted personality that made everyone laugh. She loved us all unconditionally and always went the extra step to be there for us. I love my mom and am going to miss everything about her. The simple ability of picking up the phone and calling her each day as I have all these years''. Her son Fred states ''I'm going to miss all the times we went to Denino's Restaurant together and our mutual love of Ralph's Ice across the street for dessert, this was a lifelong date we enjoyed together since I can remember. My mom was such a loving happy person who took pleasure in these simple things with family''. A Funeral service will beheld at 8:00 PM on Saturday at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
