Acursia ''Gussie'' Phelan, 81 of Staten Island, New York passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital North after a long illness. Born Friday, January 26, 1940 in Staten Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Alfonse Damino and the late Cologera ''Lena'' Pacinelli Damino. Gussie as she was affectionately known, worked for over 17 years in K-Mart as a clerk. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family, She loved to knit and crochet, cook and she cherished family trips with her husband James to Florida, Nevada, and many other states. Her most treasured time were times spent with her grandchildren, they were the light of her life. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to James Phelan. Loving mother of Maria Whitty and James Phelan. Dear mother in law of Grace Phelan. Adored sister of Patty Damino, Alena Lewis and Lydia DeRosa. Cherished grandmother to her 4 grand children, Douglas Whitty, James Phelan, John Phelan, and Gianna Phelan. A Funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM on Saturday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Private Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
