Alfonse "Mel" Miliano, 84 of Huguenot is remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 after a long illness. Alfonse was born and raised in South Beach and a was a graduate of McKee Technical High School. He was one of the last surviving members of the "South Beach Boys." Alfonse later settled in Huguenot about 40 years ago. He was a retired stationary engineer from the NYC Department of Sanitation. Alfonse, better known under his music name as "Mel", was an accomplished jazz guitarist who generously passed his knowledge and love of jazz onto hundreds of students and played with numerous professional jazz artists throughout the years. Mr. Miliano was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. He lived for his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Alfonse was pre deceased by his loving wife Grace Marie of 47 years. He is survived by his daughter AnneMarie Miliano-Scherer (Donald) and his son Michael (Lisa), his three grandsons Michael Jr., Nicholas and Vincent who he adored more than life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Monday, March 8, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 50 person in room policy is in effect, as well as a maximum of 100 people permitted in Church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
