Amalia Papandrea, 81, of Tottenville, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her children. Born January 22, 1940, in Reggio, Calabria, she moved to New York at the young age of 16 in 1956. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicola Papandrea, who passed away in 2012. She was married for 54 years. They began their life in Brooklyn and they moved to Staten Island in 1974. Amalia was a long time Staten Island resident for over 45 years. She is survived by her children Rosa Schirripa, Susan Murdocca and her husband Joseph, Lucy Papandrea, Nick Papandrea Jr. and Anthony Papandrea. She was also predeceased by her daughter Antonietta in 1972 and her son-in- law Frank Schirripa in 2008. She was a cherished grandmother to Joseph (Lauren), Antoinette (Robert), Lisa and Jacqueline, Nicholas (Kristin), Frank (Nina) and a great-grandmother to Gianna, Ashton. Marissa, Johanna, Nicholas and Camila. Amalia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to crochet and looked forward to cooking and baking all Italian Holiday traditions. She had a passion for shopping. Her favorite stores were Burlington Coat Factory and Macys which she would visit on a weekly basis. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and she loved to spoil her great grandchildren with lollipops and clothes. Her devotion to Jesus, the Blessed Mother and St. Anthony gave her strength and helped her through the most difficult times in her life. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, March 29, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:15 AM on Tuesday at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Church located at 5411 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery at 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309 Please be mindful due to current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times when in the Funeral Home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current pandemic, a strict 50 person in room policy is in effect. as well as a 300 person limit at church, kindly adhere to this policy allowing others to pay their respects. Due to current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
