Anthony D. Melillo, 100 of Woodrow, Formerly of Co-Op City, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at home after a long fulfilling life.. Born Wednesday, May 4, 1921 in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Giovanni Melillo and the late Angelina Frino Melillo. He was the husband of the late Anne Melillo. Anthony, a WWII Army veteran, and a former Foreman for the NYC Transit Authority for over 35 years spent his free time devoted to his family. Anthony was the current day Archie Bunker, opinioned and independent to a fault. Anthony well into his 90's would hop on the express bus into the city, down to the Ferry and back onto the bus in Staten Island, to visit family on a regular basis. He was an avid NY Yankees Fan remembering the greats like Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Anthony enjoyed the simple things in life, Watching the NY Giants, watching Jeopardy and following Fox News He was the beloved husband of the late Anne Melillo, whom he loved and mourned until the day of his passing. Loving father of Nancy Balaban Karen Hapka. Father in law of David Balaban and Alex Hapka. Cherished grandfather of Mark Hapka, Christopher Hapka and Ashley Balaban, and doting great grandfather of Titus Hapka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 AM on Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church located at 6135 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10309. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc.., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
