Catherine Sarutto

Catherine Sarutto, 90 of Annadale, passed away on Saturday April 16th at Clove Lakes Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Brooklyn on April 8th 1932, she was the daughter of the late Anna Cumella and Louis Panariello. Catherine was raised in Brooklyn. After high school she worked as seamstress in the garment district. She met Benjamin Sarutto of Brooklyn and they were married in 1958. They moved to Staten Island in 1963 where they raised two sons, Robert (deceased) and Stephen. Catherine was a devoted and loving mother. She was the anchor of the family teaching her sons family values that would carry them through life. She focused on the wellbeing and the future of her children and grandchildren. Catherine was a kindhearted loving person who loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Annadale Garden Club. She also developed a love of painting and drawing. Spending many mornings and afternoons on the back patio with her easel and note pads. She was encouraged and displayed some of her work at the Snug Harbor spring art show. Catherine traveled with her husband, visiting Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and an Alaska cruise. She enjoyed cooking and was a fantastic cook. She carried on the family traditions through her cooking. Passing along the heritage and family story with her holiday meals. She is survived by her husband Benjamin Sarutto, son Stephen Sarutto, daughter in-laws Mildred Sarutto and Roxanne Rivera Sarutto, and grandchildren Stephen Sarutto jr., Christopher Sarutto and Anthony Sarutto.
