Cynthia Spellacy, 57, a lifelong Eltingville resident, passed away on January 26, 2021 at Staten Island University Hospital North,after having just been diagnosed with cancer. Cynthia was a devoted teacher who was very popular with students and co-workers alike.She had just retired 2 years ago from PS 1 where she had been teaching since 1991.Cynthia was a 1981 graduate of Tottenville HS. She was born on Staten Island October 18th 1963 to the late Daniel and Renee Spellacy.Cynthia is survived by her two older brothers Daniel L.and Thomas A. Spellacy.She also is survived by nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her. Michael E., Daniel R. ,Danielle Spellacy. Thomas W., Kyle T.Spellacy and Melanie McNulty and 10 Great nieces and nephews. Upon retirement she volunteered at a local cat rescue. It was during this time she adopted three of the cats herself , Dexter, Zoey and Baby Kale affectionately known as Cindy's Rascals.She was happiest when surrounded by nature and walking into her yard was like when Dorothy stepped out of her house going from black and white to color. Gardening, bird watching, genealogy, the Mets and listening to her all time favorite band , The Beatles, were also passions of hers.In lieu of flowers donations in Cynthia's memory may be made to local animal rescues would be appreciated. A Celebration of her life will take place in the future. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a 200 person in room policy is in effect. at the church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing. You can call the florist directly at 718-948-2016 and place your order. We must protect the families we serve, our own families and staff who operate the funeral home.
