Gary T. Archer, Sr.

Gary T. Archer Sr. passed away in his Eltingville home on August 23, 2020. He was born at Staten Island Hospital to the late William and Elizabeth Archer on June 5, 1952. Gary, a native Staten Islander, grew up in Westerleigh and began working at the family business at an early age. He graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1970 and went on to attend the College of Staten Island. Soon after, Gary returned to work at his father�s business, William S. Archer, Inc., which was one of the largest automotive parts distributors in New York. Through the years, Gary and his late brother Gene learned the business from their father William E. Archer until he retired in 1990. Gary went on to run the business for the next 25 years, employing many family members and friends, including his two sons. Gary is well known for his honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic. He worked long hard hours to make sure his family and the ones he loved were well provided for. Well respected and admired by his employees and friends. Because he treated everyone equally with fairness, kindness, and respect. He was a man with strong morals and principles. He would never cut corners or take shortcuts to achieve his goals. He would often say if something was worth doing it was worth doing right. In his free time, and especially in retirement, he passionately pursued the activities he loved, such as carpentry, scuba diving, hiking, photography, travel, spending time with his dog, and riding his motorcycle. He was a former member of the Islanders Motorcycle Club. He was blessed to journey through life side by side with his devoted wife of 42 years, Yvonne. He is also survived by his loving children, Jessica, Gary Jr., his wife Stephanie, Jason, and his beloved dog, Milo. He was the loving brother of Donald and the late Gene and Judy Purcell. He was to become a grandfather to his soon to be born Grandson. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. Religious services will be on Friday in the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Reverend Garry Squire presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 40-50 person in room policy is in effect, please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well.
