April 17, 1940 - November 28, 2020
Genevieve Cannistraci, resident of Staten Island, NY, died peacefully in her sleep at home on November 28th, 2020 at the age of 80. Genevieve is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vincent; her brother Bobby; her children Linda, Lisa and Laura; her grandchildren Vincent, Paul, Isabella and Genevieve; and her great grandchildren Vincent, Emma, and Vincent. Genevieve was born in Brooklyn, NY April 17th, 1940 to Helen and Nicholas Nicotra. The middle of five children, she was the only girl born to the family with her older brothers Johnny and Billy and her younger brothers Bobby and Ronald. As a young woman she worked at the Custom House in New York City where she embarked upon a career in the import- export industry. She was highly regarded in her field. Upon becoming a mother in 1960 she left her career to raise her daughters. Her life revolved around her children of whom she was, so very, proud of. Genevieve was a true lover of life and embraced every moment. Her family and friends adored her. She was kind and generous of spirit and her philosophy of life was deeply rooted in her Roman Catholic faith. She was a longstanding parishioner of Holy Child Church. She was an avid reader. She loved the Brooklyn Dodgers, traveling and Atlantic City. Her happy place was the beach - She and her family visited Long Beach Island each summer. For decades she was a member of the Ladies Bowling League on Staten Island and a part of the Huguenot Happy Hookers Crocheting Group where she made many lasting friendships. She was one of the founders of the Staten island PFLAG chapter. To know her was to love her. She will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020, at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
