Joan E. DePrizio, 87, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born Thursday, March 30, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Martha Spinelli. Joan graduated early from Fort Hamilton High School and started working in New York City soon after. She married Ralph in 1954 and together they raised their 6 children. Joan worked at Methodist Hospital in the late 1960�s and worked her way up to Director of Admissions and a seat on the Board. She was instrumental in starting and running the hospital�s Ladies Auxiliary and gift shop for over 25 years until her retirement in 1994. Joan and Ralph became restaurant owners in Park Slope in the 80�s. She loved to travel with her husband and close friends, her favorite place being Italy. She loved the food so much she even smuggled a few artichokes back (along with some Florence Gold). What she loved most was her family. The family gatherings were legendary with great food, music and the sharing of stories. She was truly dedicated to her work and family. Our mother will be greatly missed. She was the beloved wife to the late Ralph, who passed away in 2000. Loving mother to Susan Cosentino, Raymond DePrizio, Carol Henry, John DePrizio, Claudia Cattano and Robert DePrizio. Fond mother-in-law to Michael Cosentino, Michele DePrizio, Donnie Henry, Nancy DePrizio, Art Cattano and Patricia DePrizio. Dear sister to Ralph Spinelli and Susan Goldberg. Dearest sister-in-law to Carol Spinelli and Michael Goldberg. Joan was also the devoted grandmother to her 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory to Make a Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 40 person in room policy is in effect, and 25 people maximum at the church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing. We must protect the families we serve, our own families and staff who operate the funeral home.
