Joan Marie Keyes
July 30, 1931 - January 2, 2021
Joan Marie Keyes, 89 of Eltingville, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Home surrounded by her loving family. Born Thursday, July 30, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late William Hermance and the late Kathleen Murphy Hermance. Joan a homemaker was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She devoted her life to her family and shared in every aspect of their ups and down. Her favorite moments were spending time with her big beautiful family who she loved more than anything. She had a heart of gold and would open her home to anyone. She always had a love for children. When growing up in Brooklyn, she would take children out of the Little Flower Orphanage to give them a beautiful day or weekend and make them feel special and loved; that love continued the rest of her life, as she took care of more than 50 children during her lifetime, which enabled their parents to give them a better life. She was a Sweet Adeline for many, many years. She enjoyed singing at the nursing homes around Staten Island, bringing happiness to all the seniors there. She even shined like a star when she got to sing at Carnegie Hall. Sweetness and love are two words that best describe her. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. You could search the world over and never be able to find a kinder, more generous, more loving person than her. This world was a beautiful place because of her, and the stars will shine a little brighter as she watches over us from Heaven above. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph P. Keyes who passed away in 2009. Beloved mother of Kathleen McCarthy, Maureen Moore, Geralyn Gale, Christine O'Rourke, Eileen Hall, and Patrick J. Keyes. Fondest mother in law of Bill McCarthy, Neil Moore, Jack Gale, Henry O'Rourke, George Gillis and Sharon Keyes. Dearest sister of Chickie Lilly and the late James and William Hermance. Cherished grandmother of Melissa, Katie, Kerri, Christopher, Timmy, Brian, Patrick, Danny, Megan, Brandon, Ryan, Joe, Matthew & Brendan. Adored great grandmother of Joseph, Thomas, Daniel, Scarlett, William, Emily, Brian, Izzy, Lilly, Alana, Jack, Tommy, Liam, Jackson & Baby Mia (on the way) She was a dear friend to many.
