John Mc Donald

June 5, 1946 - April 4, 2021

John McDonald of Eltingville passed away on Sunday April 4, 2021 at the Brooklyn Veterans Administration Hospital in Brooklyn. John was born in Manhattan and graduated from McKee High School. He worked as a mechanic for the New York City Transit Authority at the Yukon Depot on Richmond Avenue. John was a proud American having served 3 tours in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps from 1966 through 1969. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 34, The Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 421 and the Watkins Keller American Legion Post. In his spare time he enjoyed playing poker, spending time with family and friends and when they were not around his attention was given to his faithful and loving dog Abby. John is survived by his wife Gail nee Scocco. His brother and sister in law Elaine and Carmen LoConte, his mother in law Peggy Scocco, He was a cherished Uncle and Great Uncle. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday from 5-9p.m. at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Child Church on Wednesday at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.scaliahome.com Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 50 person in room policy is in effect. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing. You can call 718-948-2016 and place your order. We must protect the families we serve, our own families and staff who operate the funeral home.
