Judith O'Donnell

December 25, 1937 - February 20, 2021

Judith O'Donnell, 83 of Eltingville, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital. Born on December 25, 1937, in Staten Island she was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Takach and Elfrida Meagher. Judy was the beloved wife to her late husband Thomas (''Lefty'') who passed in 2016. They were married on August 11, 1962, and had three children together. Judy graduated from Wagner College in 1959 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and then with her Master's Degree in Education in 1965. She loved learning and continued earning numerous credits past her Masters. She was a teacher for 34 years. She began her career at P.S. 18. and then began teaching at P.S. 36 in Annadale where she taught for the next 28 years from 1975-2003. Judy was a member and chapter leader for the United Federation of Teachers. Judy was an avid traveler who loved exploring the world with her family and friends. Some of her most memorable trips included visits to Japan, Israel, Europe, North Africa and the Caribbean. She loved the summers she spent with family in Saranac Lake, NY. A natural athlete, she was a competitive horseback rider who also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She is survived by loving children Amanda, Mathew, and Terry O'Donnell; her dear brother Paul Takach, her adoring grandchildren Jessie, Jackie, Joseph, Brooke, Jamie, Veronica, Vanessa and great grandson Christopher. Judith was predeceased by her husband Thomas O'Donnell and sisters Barbara Quin and Phyllis Orleman. Funeral arrangements are private due to Covid-19 restrictions. In Judith's memory, the family asks that you please make a donation to the ASPCA or St Jude's Childrens Hospital. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
