Margaret McGoff

October 18, 1929 - May 10, 2021

Margaret ( Peg) McGoff formerly of Eltingville passed away on Monday May 10, 2021 at the age of 91 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brooklyn she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Mary Omerza. Margaret was the Parish Manger at Holy Child Church since its inception working alongside Msgr. Francis Brennan. She was involved in every aspect of the building of the Parish, from the Forum through the Church itself. She was the Historian at Holy Child, for she knew everything and anything about the Parish. After retiring from Holy Child she then became Parish Manager at Our Lady Star of The Sea working with Fr. Owen Gartland for many years. Margaret was a woman who enjoyed doing crafts. She volunteered at Eger Nursing Home. She enjoyed sewing and painting in her spare time. She and her late husband of 58 years George, would travel every October with their frinds to places all over the globe. She took great pride in her appearance was a stickler for proper and correct accessories to compliment the outfit she was wearing. She found great solace and comfort going to Macy's where every sales person knew her personaly. Holidays were extra special in her home. She would often create themes for each holiday. One of her favorites was Halloween. The joy she had seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren wearing their costumes and going trick or treating was so great that she herself would put on a costume and go trick and treating with them. She loved to dance especially the Lindy and the Fox Trot. Family was of the utmost importance to Margaret, she would do anything for her family. She was an avid supporter of Msgr. Farrell Basketball program. She had a most unusual sense of humor,as evidence by the time she threw herself her own Candy Themed Birthday Party so all her Grandchildren would enjoy it. Margaret is survived by her loving children, Thomas, and his wife Sandra, Veronica Baez and her husband Anthony, Barbara DiChiara and her husband James. She will be forever missed by her 8 grandchildren and her 16 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her two sisters Harriet Calvani and Ethel Way. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday from 1-5 pm at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, 28 Eltingville Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at Holy Child Church at 11:00 am. A private cremation will follow.
