Maria C. Scaltrito

December 8, 1922 - February 15, 2022

Maria Concetta Scaltrito, 99, passed away on February 15, 2022. Maria was a mother to three children, grandmother of three grandchildren, and a great grandmother of two great granddaughters. She was one of 12 children; only two remain living. She is survived by her two sons and daughter. Maria was a devoted wife for nearly 69 years to Philip Scaltrito, who passed away in 2013. She loved to cook, often making such large quantities of food that she gifted them to family and neighbors. She enjoyed being on the go, visiting stores and helping others with errands. A woman of deep Catholic faith, Maria always attended mass and prayed the rosary each night, holding devotions to several saints as a part of her daily routine. She donated to charities and had a deep love for all animals, frequently feeding neighborhood birds and having owned pets throughout her life including Remo, a West Highland White Terrier. She spoke to her family often, preferring long conversations on the phone to watching television. She was a sweet person, always with a smile, and charmed everyone she met, from loved ones to employees at stores where she shopped. All of these activities, and others too numerous to mention here, were her pleasures and how she enjoyed life. She will be missed by those who loved her and who had the opportunity to know her. May she be at peace with God and be joined with Him and all her past family and friends in heaven. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, February 18, 2022, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Rose Hill Crematory, Linden, NJ. In lieu of flowers, guests are encouraged make a donation in honor of Maria to St. Jude�s Children�s Hospital or Defenders of Wildlife.
