Mario Chierchia

February 15, 1946 - December 8, 2020

Mario Chierchia, 74 of Great Kills, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Staten Island University Hospital South surrounded by his loving family. Born Friday, February 15, 1946 in Naples, Italy, he was the son of the late Louis Luigi Chierchia and the late Cotilda Fattarusso Chierchia. Mario a life long Steamfitter was hard working, and lived for his work. Loving what he did Mario worked until the age of 72 as a local 638 Steamfitter member retiring just 2 short years ago. Mario and his wife Mary have traveled the World together, not only all over the United States but trips to Italy, Barcelona, Greece, Turkey, Egypt where in Cairo Mario was chased down the road but a wayward Donkey who had gotten loose and decided to pursue Mario. A vision his family and friends will never forget. They attended the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera, Were Spectators of Princess Grace on their trip to Monaco. Switzerland, the Bahamas, Aruba, Jackson Hole Wyoming to just name a few of their favorite trips. Mario finally got to go horse back riding at a dude ranch in Arizona, and visit Graceland to appease his wife Mary who idolized Elvis. He got to experience the natural beauty of Sedona while being squished by Mary in a jeep coming down the mountain. Loving and living life to the fullest was what Mario and Mary did every day and had no regrets until the day he was no longer with us. Mario loved his family more than anything and was devoted to them beyond measure, his passing has left a void not only in his families hearts but in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. Mario was a force, he was there for anyone who needed him, one phone call was all it took for Mario to spring into action to help out. He was the beloved husband of Mary Antoinette Chierchia. Loving father of Mario Chierchia and Christopher Chierchia. Dear father in law of Michele and Jennifer. Cherished grandfather of Vienna, Mario, Chelsea and Brody. Devoted brother of Anna, Mary, Tommy, Ralph, Louis and the late Jerry and Anthony. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, December 11, 2020, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 30 person in room policy is in effect, as well as a maximum of 150 people permitted in Church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing. To place a floral order please call 718-948-2016. We must protect the families we serve, our own families and staff who operate the funeral home.
