Mario M. Monreale, 89, of Annadale, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born Saturday, September 26, 1931 in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of the late Joseph Monreale and Mary Spatola Monreale. Mario, a Staten Island native, was born and raised in Rosebank. His family owned the former Rosebank Tailor and Furrier shop in the same town. He attended P.S.13, St. Mary's Rosebank, and graduated High school from St. Peters' Boys. Mario, following graduation, became a Naval Architect Draftsman, working for Gibbs and Cox Inc. In his free time, Mario had many hobbies. He played piano, enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and a semi-professional photographer. He was affectionately known as the "Bird Doctor" by his family, friends, and neighbors due to his nature of "fixing" all the injured birds that were found in the neighborhood. He could also be found feeding birds, another of his favorite past times. Mario was a devout member of the Holy Child Choir, and also a member of the Alumni of St. Mary's and St. Peters groups which he would often meet with. He kept these friendships since childhood. Most important to Mario was his family. Spending time with his children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Mario and his wife raised 5 children together and had so much love to give they also fostered 7 children throughout the years. Caring and giving was in his nature. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia who passed away in 2011. Loving father of Joseph, James, Christopher, Kathyann Minicucci, and Jennifer Grivas. Dear father-in-law of Eileen, Patricia, Carol, Raymond Minicucci, and the late Peter Grivas. Adored brother of Josephine Mazzullo, and the late Joanna Piegari and Rose Hosmer. Cherished grandfather of James, Allie, Lauren, Gavin, Andrew, Daniel, David, Isabella, and Jake. Great grandfather of Mason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Monday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
