Maryrose Lappin

February 21, 1944 - April 15, 2021

Maryrose Lappin, 77 of Staten Island, New York passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born Monday, February 21, 1944 in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late James Lappin and the late Mary Ottavio Lappin. After being raised in Manhattan, Maryrose moved to Brooklyn where she resided, til she moved and settled in Staten Island where she has lived for 45 years. Maryrose worked for many years and retired from Santander Bank formerly Independence and Staten Island Savings in both their Mortgage Department and as a teller. Maryrose also owned and operated the Rainbow Sundae Ice Cream Sop in Huguenot. A staple in the community, Maryrose made many friends from both her time in the bank and her own endeavors, lasting friendships that will truly be affected by her loss. A devout Catholic Maryrose was very active in her Parish Our Lady star of the Sea Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and singing in the choir for the church. Maryrose's true passion was animals. Maryrose raised and showed Irish Wolfhounds, winning many ribbons and medals in shows across the country. Maryrose dedicated both time and money to various rescues and shelters. Maryrose will be remembered fondly for both her contagious smile and gentle giving nature, her open door policy with arms wide open a real loss for her family and friends alike. She was the loving mother of Daniel Chillemi Jr. and Christopher Chillemi. Dear mother in law of Alycia Chillemi and Melissa Lepore. Adored sister of Terri Lapin. Cherished grandmother of Isobel Santarella and Shane Lepore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 AM on Monday at Our Lady Star of The Sea located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Should you so desire Donations in loving memory of Maryrose maybe made to the ASPCA or to a local rescue group of your choice. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times and social distancing will be required when in the funeral home. Due to the current pandemic a Strict 50 person room policy is in effect. Please adhere to this policy so as to allow others to pay their respects. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements. Floral arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include, temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing. You can call 718-948-2016 and place your order. We must protect the families we serve, our own families and the staff who operate the funeral home.
