Michael Aversano, Jr., 86 of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at HPH Hospice in Brooksville, Florida with his loving wife by his side. He was born Saturday, October 14, 1933 in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, where he resided until moving to Islip Terrace, Long Island, and in 2010 settled in Spring Hill, Florida. Michael was a Merchant Marine for 50 years with SIU-AMO, Marine Engineers Benevolant Association District, Local 2. He worked his way from Oiler to Chief Engineer, which he was extremly proud of. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. What was most important to him, was family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Joan. Loving father to Cliff Aversano (Linda), Debora Aversano and Elizabeth Hendell (Joshua). Dear brother to Marie Hicks and Joseph Aversano. Devoted grandfather to Cliff Aversano (Nicole). Cherished great grandfather to Mason Aversano. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Funeral Service will be at 11:45 a.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Please be mindful that a mask must be worn at all times in the Funeral Home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 40 person in room policy is in effect, please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well.
