May 29, 1932 - November 11, 2020

Rita Contessa, 88 of New Springville formerly long time resident of Eltingville passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at home surrounded by the love of her family, Born Sunday, May 29, 1932 in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frank Marinelli and the late Christina Cutro Marinelli. Rita, a secretary in the financial district on Wall Street, was devoted to her family. She and her husband Clement traveled the world together, but most treasured their time in Miami at their beach house. She relished the simple things like just watching movies and was most content just being with her children and grandchildren. She was the loving wife of 65 years to Clement Contessa. Devoted mother of William Contessa and his wife Josephine and Gerard Contessa and his wife Andrea. Cherished grandmother of Ariana, William, Gerard Jr., Christian, and Gianni. Dear sister of the late Jeanette, Marie and William Marinelli who was killed in action in WWII. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Monday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2020, and Sunday November 15, 2020 at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 40-50 person in room policy is in effect, please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
