Robert A. Thompson of Princes Bay passed away on Thursday January 7, 2021 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains NJ. Born in Brooklyn to the late John and Mary, Robert served in the US Naval Reserves retiring in 1994. He was a Police Officer with NYPD at the 68th PCT in Brooklyn. After he finished his career with the NYPD he then went on to take a position with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp serving as a Lieutenant with security at DownState Medical Center. He attended St. Leos High School. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed fishing, travelling with his wife and family, taking the occasional trip to the race track, but most of all he treasured time spent with his family. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The AOH Division 4, the Elks, the Friendship Club at Mt. Loretto, AARP, the American Legion, the Fleet Reserves, the NYPD Holy Name Society and the Emerald Society. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years Rose Ann. He was the loving father of Mary Ann Cahill, Joseph and the late JoAnn and Robert. Dearest brother to John and the late Richard, Thomas and Theresa Huber. Devoted grandfather of Brian, Michael and his wife Nathalie, Amanda and Nicole. His funeral will be on Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:15 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church . Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2- 6pm at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals Inc. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Robert's memory to the Fleet Reserve Association- Disaster Relief Fund www.fra.org and choose disaster relief. Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 30 person in room policy is in effect, as well as a maximum of 100 people permitted in Church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well.
