Vincent F. Cannistraci, 88 of Annadale, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born Thursday, March 2, 1933 in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Serafina Cannistraci. He met the love his life, Genevieve Nicotra in Tarry's Tavern in downtown Brooklyn and they were married in 1959. He also lived in the Kensington section of Brooklyn, where he and Genevieve raised their 3 daughters, Linda, Lisa and Laura. They settled in Annadale in 1977. Vincent proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal. He continued his service of keeping the community safe when he became a firefighter with the NYC Fire Department. He was a proud firefighter for 20 years, retiring in 1980 from Engine 330, Ladder 172 in Bensonhurst. Vincent had many hobbies over the years - He owned his own race horse, ''Prudy'' where he proudly would race her in the Freehold and Meadowlands race tracks. His daughters fondly recall him having a love of cars and you could always find him looking to buy a new car. He was also an avid golfer, and a huge fan of the NY Jets, where he had season tickets and would often take his children to the games. In his downtime, he would enjoy a ''good cigar'' and ''sipping'' red wine. Vincent touched the lives of many people and he had many friends that he adored. He always look forward to spending time with his buddies enjoying a cup of coffee every morning where they would meet on a daily basis. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who truly loved every moment spent with his family, especially his daughters, whom he held in the highest regard and he ''always'' understood them. Vincent was the beloved husband of 61 years to Genevieve who passed away in November of 2020. Loving father to Linda, Lisa and Laura. Dear brother to Rose Diaz, Salvatore (Junior) and the late Sonny, Isabella, Serafina and Madelaine. Devoted grandfather to Vincent, Paul, Isabella and Genevieve; and great grandchildren to Vincent, Emma, and Vincent. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Contributions in his memory may be made to New York Fire Fighters Burn Center Foundation,21A Asch Loop Bronx, NY 10475 Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services. Due to the current Pandemic a strict 50 person in room policy is in effect, as well as a maximum of 200 people permitted in Church. Please adhere to this policy and allow others to pay their respects as well. Due to the current pandemic circumstances please note: We do not accept deliveries from outside vendors for bakery products, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements until further notice. Floral Arrangements can be purchased from our in house floral designers who work under the most stringent sanitary conditions which include temperature checks, mask wearing, distancing and protective clothing.
