Alexander T. Sliwa

Alexander T. Sliwa, 91, of Eltingville Staten Island died Monday December 18th at his second home in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Sophie Lizak and Walenty Sliwa on May 29, 1926. He attended Vocational High School in East New York where he graduated with his certification as an electrician. He served in the U.S Army during World War II as an Infantry Lineman in the 32nd Division and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. Alexander worked as an installer for Western Electric and did repairs for Monroe Calculators. He was a technician at Control Instrument Company and Bankers Trust Company. His final career was as a Custodian Engineer for the New York Board of Education. Over his 30 years he worked at P.S.4, P.S.124, P.S. 32, I.S. 7 and he retired from Susan Wagner High School in 2000. Alexander married Sophie Protos in 1948 and together they had four beautiful children. He was a loving and patient husband till her death in 1997. Al was a devoted father that loved his children unconditionally. He was a devout catholic and parishioner of the Holy Child Church in Eltingville, Staten Island. He loved to travel and had the pleasure of visiting Italy, Poland and cruise the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Alexander was a gentle soul who loved his family, friends, and life itself. He helped the less fortunate and had a love for all animals and nature. He will be greatly missed by his four children, Thomas Sliwa and wife Elizabeth, Christine Sliwa, William Sliwa and Michael Sliwa; two grandchildren, Tracy Vitale, and Cassandra Husley; three great-grandchildren Gabriel and Ariella Vitale, and Elijah Husley; Sister In-law Lee Sliwa. Alexander was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Sliwa. His family will carry on his legacy of just being a good and decent man. Generations to come will know about Alexander Sliwa and his life journey and all that he did for his friends and family. Visitations will be held on Tuesday December 26,2017 from 2PM-5PM and 7PM-9PM at John Vincent Scalia Funeral Home; Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island.
