Ann T. Ronan

Ann Ronan, age 82, of Staten Island, N.Y., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y, she was the daughter of John and Mary Sullivan (nee Griffin) from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Ann attended Holy Family School and graduated from St. Brendan's H.S., Class of 1959. Outgoing and charismatic, Ann was a member of many clubs, including her favorite, the Glee Club. Professionally, Ann excelled as a bank teller for over 20 years at East River Savings Bank, and Northfield Savings Bank. With her gregarious nature, Ann befriended many customers. Being in a public place with Ann meant receiving many warm hellos, followed by ''they are my customer at the bank''. Ann lived a life defined by her Catholic faith. Her warmth, kindness, generosity, and unwavering compassion brought joy to everyone she knew. She spent many years building, and in service to her cherished Holy Child Parish as a Eucharistic Minister, and lector, and volunteered at many social events. Ann was passionate about her Irish Heritage and one of her favorite days was St. Patrick's Day on which she often attended the NYC parade with her dear friends and family cheering on her bagpiper husband and son. She became known as the ''Staten Ireland Loves You'' lady, as Ann and her homemade sign made it onto the front page of the Staten Island Advance for many years. She was a dedicated puzzle-solver who was never without a crossword puzzle book, and she was an enthusiastic Wordle, Connections and Spelling Bee player. Ann's acute intelligence and strong memory made her the go-to person for family history, and she never forgot someone's birthday. Ann spent her final years as a resident at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home in the loving care of the Carmelite Sisters and the dedicated team of Care Members at the home. Ann found comfort at Carmel Richmond in the residents and the staff. Being the social butterfly that she was, she was an integral part of the Carmel community. She never missed an activity. From daily Mass to music performances, to movies, to Bingo, Ann was always up for enjoying activities with her friends. Ann met the love of her life, Laurence (Larry) Ronan at a dance in Manhattan. It was a ''long-distance'' relationship (Brooklyn - The Bronx), but the two fell in love and have been married for 60 years. Their relationship was based on commitment and caring, and they built a loving home on Staten Island where they raised four children. Ann instilled in her children that the most important things in the world are family, love, and faith. Ann is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, and her adoring children, Mary Grimaldi, her husband John, Elizabeth Ronan, Eileen Chipura, her husband, Gerard, Patrick Ronan, his wife Kathleen, and her cherished grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Matthew, Kiera, Nicholas, Megan and Caitlin.. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
