Anthony Torra

Anthony Robert Torra, age 85, of Staten Island, New York, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, under the comfort of family and hospice care. Anthony was born to Margaret Mele and Robert Torra in Bronx, New York, in 1939. He was lovingly raised by family members in support of his mother who needed to provide for herself and Anthony during his early childhood years. Anthony attended school and graduated from high school in the Bronx. As a young adult, he moved back in with his mother to help support her. Anthony's first job included waiting tables in local restaurants. Eventually, he found employment at Metropolitan Life Insurance as a Salesman where he remained for over 40 years. Within that time, Anthony worked evenings in a lighting store in NYC to further support his growing family. Anthony was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his wife, two daughters, sons-in-law, and five grandchildren. His silly sense of humor was enjoyed by all. Anthony was a joyful, content man who asked nothing of others. He lived to see his family thriving. During his free time, Anthony enjoyed reading books about Geography, Autobiographies, animals, and more. He loved reading the newspaper, watching the National Geographic channel on TV, and listening to music by Frank Sinatra. Anthony also enjoyed taking his family on shopping trips, visits to the city, the zoo, and family vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey. Anthony met the love of his life, Marianne, after being introduced by a co-worker. They married on November 6, 1965, at Mary Queen of Heaven church in Brooklyn, New York, where Marianne resided with her family. Anthony and Marianne's marriage was blessed with two children, Denise and Vicki. They raised their family in a private home in Brooklyn, New York, where they remained for many years. In 2009, Anthony was widowed upon the sudden passing of his wife, Marianne. Anthony remained in Brooklyn until 2020 when he then moved to Staten Island to live closer to his daughters and their families. Anthony enjoyed quality time with those he loved from then until his passing. Anthony will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a,m. on Monday, January 27, 2025 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church located at 50 Maguire Avenue Staten Island, New York 10309. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org would be greatly appreciated.
