Aurora Gutierrez

Aurora Gutierrez, age 71, of Eltingville passed away on Sunday, October 8th, 2023, with the comfort of her husband by her side. She was born in Puerto Rico to Aurora and Eustaguio Cruz, and was one of 12 brothers and sisters. She moved to New York City at the age of 16 and graduated from Sarah J. Hale Vocational High School with a certificate in business administration. While Aurora attended high school, she began an internship at Bankers Trust and upon graduation, she was hired full time as a banker. Aurora worked at Bankers Trust for 15 years and established herself within the company and worked her way up to Assistant Treasurer. After giving birth to her first child William Jr., Aurora decided that she had enough of the hustle and bustle of working in the city and with the long banking hours. She wanted to change careers and find something more flexible that would allow her more time to focus on her family and being a mother. Aurora’s new career was at Coney Island Hospital where she worked as an administrative assistant, and then was promoted to coordinating manager of the nursing department. She worked there for 22 years. While Aurora was a very hard working, ambitious young woman, her main priority was her family. She took pride in being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was loving, caring, a nurturer, and she was an amazing homemaker and cook. Aurora taught her children and grandchildren the meaning of responsibility, and she instilled in them her morals, beliefs, and values every single day. She also wanted both of her children to attend college and they both obtained college degrees. Aurora was the life of the party. She loved listening to Marc Anthony and loved to dance. Aurora loved family traditions, which included having dinner every night together as a family, celebrating traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and wishing her children happy birthday on the exact minute they were born. Aurora was and shall forever remain the rock of our family. Aurora met the love of her life, William, at the young age of 19 while they were working at Bankers Trust. They both knew immediately that they had met “the one,” and were married in Maricao, Puerto Rico on December 25th, 1971. William and Aurora have an amazing love story and their marriage is the ultimate portrayal of unconditional love. They had a son, William Jr., and a daughter, Jessica Dawn, and have spent the last 51 years creating beautiful memories as a family. She is also survived by her grandsons’ Christopher, Shawn, Joseph, William J., Alexander and Nicholas. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects at the John Vincent Scalia Home for funeral at 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY on Thursday, October 12th, 2023 from 2-5PM and 7-9PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday October 13th, 2023 at the funeral home, followed by the burial service at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, 361 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ 07751.
