Ben G. Orosz

Ben G. Orosz, 61 of Great Kills passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Staten Island University Hospital South. Born Saturday, November 2, 1957 in Staten Island, he was the son of the late George Orosz and the late Elizabeth Wagloom Orosz. Ben a lifelong Staten Islander, graduated form Wagner High School. After graduation, Ben worked for many years from a young age in to the 90's with the family owned business Richmond Burglar Alarm. Ben began working for the NYC Department of Sanitation in 1985. He was promoted to supervisor-officer in 1992 and retired after 21 years of service in 2006. Ben enjoyed all sports, baseball being his favorite. He was an avid Yankees Fan since childhood and went to many games with his wife and children. Ben was extremely handy and could build or fix anything. His garden was his favorite past time, He would create and build all types of contraptions to feed and water his plants, always bigger and better than the year before. Family, friends, and neighbors were always amazed with his ever growing garden. Ben would always give everyone that visited a bag of fruits and vegetables he grew, namely his world famous tomatoes, basil and cucumbers. Ben was extremely close to his wife and children. He was a wonderful husband and father. Some of their best memories were driving done to Florida every year together. His son Anthony remembers '' Although it was a very long drive, it would go fast because we had so much fun on the ride down.'' Ben also enjoyed late nigh swims with his family, his daughter Carina said ''We would BBQ, then go for a late night swim, then play cards or a board game all night. We had so much fun together.'' Ben loved fishing and crabbing through the night with his family. He was a excellant cook and would prepare these great meals for his family. Ben was a parishioner of St. Clare Roman Catholic Church in Great Kills. He was the devoted husband of 31 years to his wife Rose nee Vellucci Orosz. He was the loving father of Anthony and Carina Orosz. He was the dear brother of Barbara Botta, Elizabeth Castro, Catherine D'Gaetano, John Orosz, Joseph Orosz and the late Linda Cipoletti and George Orosz. Adored future father in law of Alexandria Paulino. Cherished brother in law, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. His daughter Carina said ''I love my dad very, very much and he was a great, supportive, and very loving Dad'' His son Anthony said ''My dad was just an all around great guy. we had such fun times together, I love admire and miss him so much.'' '' There are no words to describe how much I miss him, I love him very very much. I not only lost my husband of 31 years, I lost my very best friend.'' said his wife Rose. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Friday at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at The John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
