Benjamin Sarutto

Benjamin Sarutto was born on October 8, 1929 in Red Hook Brooklyn, and passed away on Monday May 12, 2025 at the age of 95. He is survived by his son Stephen Sarutto and daughter-in-law Mildred Sarutto, daughter in-law Roxann Riveria-Sarutto, and his grandchildren Stephen Sarutto Jr., Carolyn Sarutto and Anthony Sarutto. His beloved wife Catherine passed away in 2022 and son Robert passed in 2020. After service in Germany Ben was discharged on October 4, 1951. He meet Catherine Panariello through mutual friends. They were married in 1958 and resided in Bay ridge Brooklyn. in 1963 they moved to the town of Annadale in Staten Island. Raising two boys; Robert and Stephen, Ben brought them to the Boy Scouts to get them involved in extracurricular activities. He ended up remaining active in scouting for 20 years. He meet most of his lifelong friends through Scouting: Fran, Harold, Taub, Bob and Mickey. They met as parents but ended up creating lifelong friendships and becoming golf buddies. Ben Worked for the Brooklyn Union gas after returning from service. He started as a dispatcher and found his way to marketing as a new business representative before retiring in 1994. He learned to play golf as a new business representative. The NY State Builder's Association held golf outings to bring together builders, manufacturers and contractors. To enjoy these events, he learned to play golf with help of his colleagues and family. Golf gave him an escape; with his scouting buddies they planned many a golfing weekends. Leaving the wives to shop while they played 18 holes. Ben was a loving and devoted husband and father. Committed to his family and helping when ever he could. He was always there to pick up the pieces and help in anyway possible. He was always willing to give up his time to make things right for someone else. Ben was also a Yankees and Giants fan. Watching them every game he could. Following them through very up and down of the season. Ben and Catherine loved to travel and take cruses with their friends. They took cruises to Alaska and the Baltic Sea. Stopping in Denmark, Norway and Saint Petersburg Russia. They traveled throughout Europe, visiting Italy a number of times, also visiting Egypt and the Middle East. Benjamin will be remembered for his devotion to family, and service to others. His legacy and memory live's on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
