Obituary for Calogera (Lee) Galvano Calogera (Lee) Galvano, 99 years young and a resident of Eltingville, Staten Island, passed away on Thursday March 12 at Addeo House Hospice Residence. On December 3, 1926, she was born at home to Rosa and Salvatore Gioia. She was the 4th of 7 children. She was a graduate of Manhattan High School of Women's Garment Trades where she learned beauty culture and became a hairdresser by profession. She worked at Mr. Karl's Beauty Salon on 1st Avenue in Manhattan for decades. After retiring from Salon work, she made the transition to become a receptionist at Chase Manhattan Plaza in lower Manhattan. She and her husband, Peter Galvano, moved from Brooklyn to Staten Island to enjoy their retirement years. During their 59-year marriage, Lee and Pete filled their retirement days with trips to Atlantic City and Miami Beach. They also loved viewing new movies every week. They planted a flowering cherry tree that still stands as a testament to their love. Lee was an enthusiastic gardener and an avid reader well into her mid 90's. She also enjoyed other hobbies by creating beautifully crafted sequined women's apparel and made beaded flower arrangements. She strongly believed in education and even took a course in painting to widen her horizons. However, the true joy of her later life was welcoming 4 great grandchildren into the family: Hayden and Emily Frintrup and Tyler and Ryan Harkness. She was so proud of them, and she treasured their visits, postcards and facetime calls. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Peter, and 5 sisters: Rose Russo and Concetta (Jean) Lentini of Texas, Louise Siracusano of Queens, N.Y, Grace Gioia and Isabel Manfredo of Pompton Lakes, N.J. and 1 brother, Charles Gioia of Pompton Lakes, N.J. She is survived by her daughter, Loraine Frintrup and her husband Fred of Milltown, N.J., her grandson, Peter and his wife Tricia (nee Cranmer) of Los Angeles, California, and her granddaughter Lauren Harkness and her husband, Thomas of Wesley Chapel, Florida. Her sister-in-law, Helen Gioia and many nieces and nephews are fortunate to have known her. Lee was also a good friend and neighbor who cared deeply for others. In lieu of flowers a donation would be appreciated at Addeo House Hospice at 78 Meisner Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10306. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday March 26, 2026, at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
