Christene Fossella

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christene Fossella of South Beach, who died on July 6, 2026. She is survived by her husband Vincent, daughters Christene and Jessica, sons-in-law Carl and Steven, grandson Anthony, and granddaughter Sienna. She also leaves behind her ''baby brother'' Bill, her father-in-law Aldo, several brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born on October 2, 1948, in Greenwich Village, NY, Christene was the beloved daughter of William and Theresa (DeStefano) Bonner, both who predeceased her. Christene graduated from St. Anthony's elementary school in 1962 and St. Michael's high school in 1966. At just 17 years old, while vacationing at his family's beach bungalows, Christene met the love of her life, Vincent. He was smitten from the moment he laid eyes on her, and the young couple enjoyed riding on his Harley and attending concerts together. Their 54-year marriage was a testament to enduring love - a journey that embraced both joys and hardships, always sustained by the bond they shared. Christene was a devoted mother whose greatest pride was her family. She was a loving Mommy to her girls Chris-ee and Jess-ee. They joked about her having a PhD in worrying. But looking back, every warning, phone call, and 'be careful' was just another way she said, 'I love you.' She was also the proud Gram-ee and biggest fan of Anthony and Sienna. She enjoyed attending their sports events, dance recitals, and theater performances, as well as spoiling them rotten. She loved her dog Gino, grand-dogs Dexter and Sam, as well as all the family dogs who crossed over the rainbow bridge (Amber, Lola, Zimmer, Clark, Max, and Peyton). She dedicated her life to providing for her family, supporting them through the years, and celebrating their accomplishments. Her love for her family was unconditional and unwavering. For 30+ years, she was a dedicated and valued employee with the New York State Workers' Compensation Board, becoming a familiar and beloved staple to all who knew her there. Not only was she a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, but Christene was also a treasured friend to so many throughout every stage of life. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel special and loved, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Her thoughtful nature, loyalty, and genuine interest in the lives of others created lasting bonds that she cherished until the end. The friendships she nurtured were a reflection of her generous heart and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her favorite pastime was shopping, and her purse collection was nothing short of legendary. Proud of her city-girl roots, she always kept up with the latest fashion trends. She loved getting lost in a good book, watching reality TV, cheering on the Yankees, and following celebrity gossip. She also enjoyed dining out with her friends and having an espresso martini. The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, 28 Eltingville Blvd., Staten Island, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 AM on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 80 Jerome Ave, Staten Island, NY. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
